Atiku: I’m not desperate to be president, my ambition is about Nigeria’s future
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president in 2027, stressing that his ambition is focused on building a better and more prosperous nation.
Speaking through Ola Olateju, a professor at Achievers University, during a ceremony in Lagos to welcome defectors into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku said his political journey is about service, not personal ambition.
“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. It’s not about him being president at all costs. It’s about having a good government that can deliver for Nigerians,” Olateju said.
He added that the ADC is more than a political party, describing it as “a movement of Nigerians for a better Nigeria.”
On the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, Atiku said the decision would be made through a transparent process.
“We are not imposing anyone on the people. Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we will all support. The point is a better Nigeria, not Atiku for president at all costs,” he stated.
Atiku emphasized that the eventual candidate would represent the collective aspirations of Nigerians.
