Gunmen invade Ondo church, abduct six worshippers
Gunmen have attacked a branch of the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo LGA, abducting six worshippers during an early morning service on Wednesday.
The attack, which occurred around 12.50am, comes amid rising security concerns in Ondo State and follows the abduction of a couple in Ilu-Abo community, Akure North LGA, four days earlier.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Abayomi said operatives, working with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, swiftly mobilised to the scene and launched a coordinated rescue operation.
He said one of the abducted worshippers has been rescued, while a suspect linked to the attack has been arrested and is providing useful information to investigators.
Abayomi assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and bring all those responsible to justice.
He also urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and support security agencies with credible information to aid ongoing operations.
