Nigerian DJs boycott Burna Boy’s music after clash with DJ Tunez

The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary ban on songs by Afrobeats star Burna Boy following an alleged altercation with fellow disc jockey DJ Tunez.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday at Obi’s House, a popular Afrobeats event in Lagos. Eyewitness accounts indicate that a verbal disagreement between both parties escalated into a physical confrontation, with members of Burna Boy’s entourage allegedly joining before the situation was eventually brought under control.

Although the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, speculation on social media links it to ongoing tensions within the industry, particularly DJ Tunez’s close affiliation with Wizkid, who is frequently compared to Burna Boy by fans.

In response, the NDJ issued a statement on Instagram condemning discrimination and hostility within the entertainment industry, while calling for unity among its members.

The association emphasised principles of equality, tolerance, and respect, urging DJs nationwide to reject prejudice based on background, religion, gender, or other differences.

NDJ stated that it remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all its members, both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

As part of its response, the group announced a boycott of Burna Boy’s music across its network pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.

“Burna Boy’s music is temporarily removed from our DJs’ playlists until further notice,” the statement read, adding that a proper review of the situation is underway.
