CCII: Makinde, Olubadan rift resolved, impeachment and dethronement claims unfounded
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) says the reported rift between Seyi Makinde and Rashidi Ladoja has been amicably resolved.
In a statement on Sunday, CCII president-general Sulaimon Ajewole said the issue was settled through internal dialogue and traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms in Ibadanland, following concerns over rising tensions.
The clarification comes after Ayodele Fayose alleged that Makinde was plotting to remove the Olubadan, a claim earlier denied by the palace.
Ajewole dismissed speculations of impeachment or dethronement, stressing that no such plans exist.
“The issues between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan have been resolved amicably, and attempts by external forces to escalate the situation have failed,” the statement said.
He noted that the disagreement never required outside intervention, as Ibadan elders and stakeholders stepped in promptly to manage the situation.
According to him, the relationship between the governor and the Olubadan remains rooted in mutual respect, describing it as a father-and-son bond.
Ajewole warned individuals and groups against inflaming tensions, insisting that Ibadan has the capacity to resolve its internal matters without external interference.
He also urged residents of Ibadan and the wider Oyo community to remain calm and support efforts to sustain peace and development.
The CCII president-general commended both leaders for their contributions, highlighting the governor’s strides in infrastructure, prompt salary and pension payments, job creation, and improved security, as well as the Olubadan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening economic growth in Ibadan.
