Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Akure, Rescue Victim and Arrest Suspect

The Ondo State Police Command has thwarted a kidnap attempt in Akure, rescuing a victim and arresting one suspect following a swift response by its operatives.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at Oba-Ile after officers on routine patrol received intelligence that a man was being held against his will inside a moving vehicle.

According to security sources, the victim was heard shouting for help from within a red Toyota Camry, prompting the police to immediately mobilise and pursue the suspected kidnappers.

During the chase, the suspects reportedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape.

The police team continued the pursuit, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang fled. The vehicle used in the operation was also recovered.

Further investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the police intervention.

The victim has since been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the arrested suspect is assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing gang members.

The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit for further investigation.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the commandโ€™s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to help curb criminal activities.
