Troops Foil Terrorist Attack in Ondo, Recover Weapons
Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists near the Ogbeese forest along the Owo axis in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The soldiers also recovered weapons and other items during the operation.
According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on May 4 after troops received a distress call about the movement of suspected terrorists in the area.
The troops were said to have swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee.
During a follow-up operation in the area, the soldiers reportedly recovered one Dane gun and a mobile phone believed to belong to the suspects.
However, one soldier was killed during the exchange of fire, while another sustained injuries.
The injured officer was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Military authorities also disclosed that security patrols and operations have been intensified in the area to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating nearby communities.
They assured residents of continued efforts to maintain security and sustain dominance in the affected area.
