Tinubu Casts Vote in Lagos APC Presidential Primary, Hails Process as Democratic
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday cast his ballot in the ongoing presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, describing the process as a strong reflection of internal democracy within the ruling party.
Tinubu voted at Ward L2, Ireti Primary School in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he arrived alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, amid cheers from supporters, party chieftains, stakeholders, and APC governors.
Speaking after voting, the president commended the conduct of the exercise, saying the process had remained peaceful and orderly.
“It has been a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going very well according to plan,” Tinubu said.
The president’s participation in the primary comes months after the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) endorsed him as the sole APC candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was announced in May 2025 during an APC summit in Abuja by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who chairs the forum.
Speaking on behalf of APC governors, Uzodimma said members of the forum unanimously backed Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing the need for continuity in governance and national development.
“For Nigeria to get to her destination faster in prosperity, the president should be adopted as our flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election for a second term in office,” Uzodimma had stated.
Tinubu is expected to emerge as the party’s candidate as the APC primary process continues nationwide.
