No confirmed Ebola cases in Nigeria, NCDC clarifies

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Ebola has been detected in Nigeria, stating that no confirmed cases of the disease have been recorded in the country.

The clarification comes amid heightened surveillance efforts following recent Ebola outbreaks in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Earlier, the Director-General of the NCDC, Jide Idris, disclosed that Nigeria is about 59 per cent prepared to respond to a potential Ebola outbreak. The agency also noted that the country remains at high risk due to ongoing transmission in Uganda and the DRC, coupled with increased cross-border movement and international travel.

In a statement posted on its X account on Saturday, the NCDC said it was aware of reports claiming that Ebola had been confirmed in Nigeria.

“We wish to clarify that there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria. Any report stating otherwise is false,” the agency stated.

The public health agency added that it remains vigilant and continues to strengthen surveillance, preparedness, and response measures across the country.

The NCDC urged members of the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding Ebola and other disease outbreaks.
