Kemi Adeosun: My husband and I planned to travel every three months
Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has mourned her husband, Adeniyi Adeosun, saying they had planned to travel every three months and spend more time enjoying life together.
Adeosun spoke on Thursday during the funeral service for her husband, who died on August 5 at the age of 62.
In her tribute, the former minister said the couple, who would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this year, had agreed that it was time to relax and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
“This year would have been 33 years of our wedding anniversary. We had a meeting, the two of us, and we said now every three months, we’re just going to be travelling, we spend all the money,” she said.
Adeosun said she was devastated by her husband’s death but remained grateful for the years they spent together.
She said Adeniyi was not ill before his death, adding that he simply went to sleep and did not wake up.
“On Friday, I went to the mortuary and when I saw him, he had the biggest smile on his face. He wasn’t sick. He simply went to sleep and didn’t wake up. That’s the way I’d like to go,” she said.
The former minister expressed gratitude to God for her husband’s life, their marriage, children, family and friends.
Recalling his personality, she described Adeniyi as a “mischievous human being” and shared an incident from one of their trips to the United States.
According to her, Adeniyi once pretended to be disabled and obtained a wheelchair to avoid a long immigration queue.
“The kind of things that were coming to his head. That’s Niyi for you,” she said.
Adeosun said their home was always filled with laughter and that her husband would be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
“He’s going to be very much missed by everybody that knew him,” she added.
