AKCCIMA COMMENDS ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT ON ROAD RECONSTRUCTION, SAYS IMPROVED ROAD NETWORK WILL BOOST COMMERCE AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES
The Akure Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (AKCCIMA) has commended the Ondo State Government for the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads linking major markets and commercial centres within the city of Akure.
In a statement signed by the President, Barrister Kehinde Ige,
the Chamber particularly appreciates the commitment of His Excellency, Dr Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, and the Honourable Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Engr Abiola Olawoye
for their efforts towards improving road infrastructure and facilitating commercial activities across the state.
As the umbrella body representing the interests of the business community in Akure, AKCCIMA recognises that good road infrastructure is fundamental to economic growth, efficient transportation, and sustainable business development.
The reconstruction of roads connecting markets and commercial areas will significantly ease the movement of goods and services, reduce transportation difficulties, improve access to business premises, and create a more conducive environment for traders, manufacturers, transport operators, farmers, and other economic stakeholders.
The Chamber notes that accessible and motorable roads are particularly important to market operators and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), whose daily activities depend heavily on the efficient movement of raw materials, finished products, and customers. Improved road connectivity can also help reduce avoidable transportation costs, minimise delays in the delivery of goods, and strengthen commercial relationships between producers, distributors, and consumers.
AKCCIMA believes that the ongoing road projects, when completed to the required standards, will contribute to increased commercial activities, stimulate investment, promote job creation, and enhance the overall economic development of Akure and its surrounding communities.
The Chamber therefore expresses its appreciation to the Governor for recognising the importance of infrastructure development to the growth of commerce and industry. We also commend the Honourable Commissioner and the relevant technical teams for their roles in facilitating and supervising the projects.
While celebrating this laudable intervention, the Chamber respectfully encourages the State Government to sustain the momentum by extending similar infrastructure improvements to other roads serving markets, industrial clusters, business districts, and emerging commercial areas across the state.
We also urge that appropriate attention be given to quality workmanship, effective drainage systems, road safety, and regular maintenance to ensure that the benefits of the projects endure.
Furthermore, AKCCIMA calls on traders, residents, transport operators, and other road users to cooperate with the government and construction teams by observing traffic regulations and protecting public infrastructure for the common good.
As a responsible partner in economic development, the Chamber reaffirms its commitment to constructive engagement with the Ondo State Government and other stakeholders in promoting policies and programmes that encourage private-sector growth, investment, employment generation, and prosperity for the people.
The development of infrastructure is an investment in commerce, and the development of commerce is an investment in the prosperity of our people.
AKCCIMA remains committed to supporting every constructive effort aimed at making Akure a more accessible, business-friendly, and economically vibrant city.
Kehinde Ig Esq.,
President
Akure Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (AKCCIMA)
