BREAKING: Kano Deputy Governor Resigns Amid Impeachment Moves

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam, has stepped down from office.

His resignation was announced on Friday in a statement by Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The development comes after the Kano State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against him. Earlier in the week, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano dismissed Abdussalam’s request to stop the process.

According to the statement, the deputy governor’s decision to resign was taken in the interest of the state and to ensure stability in governance.

It noted that recent developments had limited his ability to effectively carry out the responsibilities of his office, making it necessary for him to step aside so the position can function optimally.

The movement, however, stressed that Abdussalam’s resignation should not be seen as an admission of any allegations levelled against him by the state assembly. It maintained that he remains confident in his record of public service and integrity.

Describing the move as an act of statesmanship, the statement said the resignation was aimed at preserving peace and preventing political tension that could disrupt governance and development in Kano State.

It added that Abdussalam will now focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections, including rebuilding its structures and engaging in political realignments.

Supporters and residents of the state were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to democratic ideals, with a promise that further updates would be communicated in due course.
