Kaduna Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Bail Hearing to June

The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to the first week of June 2026.

The trial judge, Darius Khobo, postponed the hearing on Tuesday.

El-Rufai appeared in court accompanied by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Speaking to journalists after the session, his counsel, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated adjournments, alleging that they were politically motivated.

Earlier, on April 14, the court had fixed April 21, 2026, for ruling on the bail application.

The ICPC had, on April 13, arraigned El-Rufai before the court on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office. The agency subsequently removed Amadu Sule as a co-defendant in the revised charges.

In a separate matter before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, the former minister was granted bail in the sum of ₦200 million by Rilwani Aikawa.

El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19, following his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was later released on March 27 on compassionate grounds after the death of his mother.
