Troops arrest ‘terrorist spy’ at Yobe airport

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected terrorist informant at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Yobe state.

The suspect, believed to be linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), was apprehended in the early hours of April 23 by troops of Sector 2 stationed at the airport.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, security sources said the individual was spotted acting suspiciously near a military facility around 5:30am and was subsequently taken into custody.

The sources added that the suspect failed to provide useful information during initial questioning and has since been handed over to the military intelligence bureau for further interrogation.

They noted that while the overall security situation in the area remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable. However, troops are said to maintain high morale and operational effectiveness.

In a related development last month, troops arrested two individuals suspected of working as informants for Boko Haram and ISWAP in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state.
