Tinubu alleges plot to exploit insecurity for his removal

President Bola Tinubu has claimed that political opponents are attempting to take advantage of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity to push him out of office.

He made the remark on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja while receiving a delegation from Plateau State led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, following recent violence in Jos.

According to the president, critics are “playing into the hands” of those seeking to use the security crisis against his administration. He described himself as a “stubborn” politician who remains determined to stay in office and seek re-election in 2027.

Tinubu also urged Plateau leaders to return home and convene a broad meeting aimed at restoring peace in the state. He advised them to revisit and implement the recommendations contained in previous reports on the attacks.

The president further disclosed plans to collaborate with the National Assembly on establishing state police as part of efforts to tackle insecurity.

He encouraged political and community leaders in Plateau, including former governors, to work together, review existing policy documents, and agree on concrete steps to address the crisis.

Nigeria has witnessed a surge in killings, abductions, and attacks on security personnel in recent months, particularly in the northern region, raising fresh concerns over the country’s security situation.
