Yilwatda warns APC aspirants against disrupting primaries, threatens suspension

Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned aspirants seeking elective positions on the party’s platform against disrupting the conduct of its primaries, saying offenders risk suspension.

Yilwatda gave the warning while addressing aspirants who recently underwent screening by various APC committees.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and information, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman cautioned that aspirants or supporters found instigating violence, sponsoring unrest, engaging in anti-party activities, or undermining the integrity of the primary process would face strict disciplinary action.

He urged aspirants contesting under the APC to conduct themselves with discipline, maturity, and statesmanship ahead of the party’s nationwide primaries.

According to him, the ruling party remains committed to transparent, peaceful, credible, and democratic primaries aimed at strengthening internal democracy and boosting public confidence.

Yilwatda said the APC had built a reputation it would not allow to be overshadowed by personal ambitions.

He also reminded aspirants that while the primaries would produce winners and losers, democracy thrives on healthy competition, mutual respect, and acceptance of results.

“In every democratic contest, only one person will eventually emerge victorious. What is important is the spirit with which the process is approached,” he said.

“I urge all aspirants to display maturity, patriotism, and good sportsmanship by embracing the outcome of the primaries in the overall interest of the party and our democracy.”

The APC chairman further urged aspirants to see themselves as ambassadors of the party.

Yilwatda also commended Bola Tinubu for what he described as efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and internal party processes.

He said the Tinubu administration had introduced reforms targeted at economic growth, stability, and national development despite existing challenges.

According to him, achievements of the administration include investments in road infrastructure, rail transportation, agriculture, energy, and support for small businesses.

He urged party stakeholders to align with the president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and avoid actions capable of creating division or escalating political tension ahead of the elections.
