Former Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress primary for Ondo Central Senatorial District, securing the party’s ticket for the 2026 senatorial election.

The result was announced late Monday, May 18, 2026, by the Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Engr. Thomas Olufemi Awosika. He said the exercise was conducted in line with the APC constitution and electoral guidelines.

According to the official result, Fasoranti polled 36,652 votes to defeat his closest challengers. Incumbent Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire garnered 5,733 votes, while Dr. Sylvester Muyiwa Adu secured 1,245 votes.

Declaring Fasoranti the winner, Awosika said he “fulfilled all constitutional requirements of the APC and obtained the highest number of valid votes cast in the exercise.” He was thereafter returned elected as the party’s candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District.

The primary, held across the district, was closely watched as a key contest ahead of the 2026 general elections. With the outcome, Fasoranti will now carry the APC flag into the main race for the Senate seat currently held by Adegbonmire.

Party stakeholders described the process as peaceful in most wards, though pockets of tension were reported in parts of Akure South during collation. Security personnel were on ground to maintain order.
