Aisha Yesufu to Join Natasha at Senate Resumption Despite Senate Opposition

Activist Aisha Yesufu has vowed to accompany Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the National Assembly today, showing solidarity with the embattled lawmaker as she insists on resuming her duties despite resistance from the Senate.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s decision follows a July ruling by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which declared her suspension unconstitutional. However, the Senate President’s legal team has appealed the judgment, arguing that it interferes with legislative functions.

Speaking on *Sunrise Daily* on Channels TV, Yesufu criticized the Senate’s stance and described the suspension as unlawful.

“Senator Natasha has every right to resume office, and by tomorrow, she is not going to resume alone. I’ll be one of those going with her,” she said.
“If the Senate decides they are going to kill us, let them kill us.”

Yesufu also condemned the low representation of women in the Senate, calling the suspension part of a broader pattern of political discrimination against women.

> “We are not even one-third. Out of 109 senators, we have only four women. Yet you go after them.”

She accused the Senate of acting with impunity and faulted the judiciary for allegedly yielding to political pressure.

Meanwhile, Akpoti-Uduaghan reiterated her plan to return to the chamber despite the pending appeal by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“I’ve written to the Senate again, telling them that I’m resuming on the 22nd, which is Tuesday, by the special grace of God,” she said in Ihima, her hometown in Kogi State.
“The court may not have given an order, but it made a decision.”

The Senate had suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan on March 6, 2025, following a dispute over seating arrangements and her public accusation of sexual misconduct against Akpabio—an allegation he denied.

Despite the court’s ruling, the Senate maintains that she remains suspended, arguing no binding order mandates her reinstatement.
