Panic in Offa After Midnight Explosions Damage Buildings
Residents of Offa in Kwara State were thrown into panic late Thursday night after loud explosions damaged several buildings in parts of the town.
The incident occurred shortly after United States President Donald Trump announced U.S. airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in parts of Nigeria. However, it remains unclear whether the explosions in Offa were linked to the reported U.S. action or carried out by Nigerian security forces.
Eyewitnesses said debris fell from the sky, raising suspicion that a drone-delivered device may have caused the blast. A video obtained at the scene showed what appeared to be remnants of a drone bomb on the ground.
At least five houses and several shops were damaged, with debris scattered across the affected areas. Residents in the video appealed to the Kwara State Government for urgent intervention and questioned why the largely peaceful town was affected.
A member of the local vigilante group confirmed that the explosions occurred around midnight, affecting a hotel and another location near a prayer ground around Ijagbo in Offa. He said no lives were lost.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement, and the cause of the explosions remains unconfirmed.
