US Delivers Military Supplies to Nigeria
The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigerian security agencies to support ongoing security operations across the country.
The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, announced the delivery in a post on X on Tuesday.
The development comes weeks after a Christmas Day air strike by the US against the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in Sokoto State. Following the strike, US President Donald Trump warned that further action could be taken against extremist groups accused of targeting Christians.
In October 2025, Trump designated Nigeria a โCountry of Particular Concernโ over allegations of widespread persecution of Christians.
He also described Nigeria as a โdisgracefulโ country and threatened military action if the government continued to allow the killing of Christians.
According to AFRICOM, the military supplies are meant to strengthen Nigeriaโs counter terrorism and broader security operations. The command said the support is part of a wider US strategy to enhance operational cooperation with regional partners in West Africa.
Nigeria has experienced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years, particularly in the northern regions.
As of the time of filing this report, the federal government has not issued an official statement on the latest US support.
