SSA on Student Affairs to Ondo Governor Moves to Address Student Registration Challenges
In a recent meeting at the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) National Headquarters in Abuja, major stakeholders which includes the Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs to Governors, the Senior Special Assistant to President, Federal Republic of Nigeria – Hon. Comr. Sunday Asefon, NELFUND Managing Team, Federal Ministry of education and other Stakeholders convened to address pressing issues affecting student registration on the NELFUND registration portal. The meeting was spearheaded by the Senior Special Assistant on Student Engagement to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hon. Comr. Sunday Asefon who led a delegation of Senior Special Assistants to Governors.
The central topic of the meeting was the registration difficulties faced by students attempting to access educational funding via the NELFUND platform. Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu, the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs to Ondo State Governor , voiced concerns about the numerous complaints received from students. Many students reported that their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration numbers were being flagged as invalid during the registration process, hindering their access to crucial educational loans.
Addressing these concerns, NELFUND Managing Director explained that the primary cause of the issue lies in the failure of some higher institutions to upload their student lists to the NELFUND database. This step is essential for verifying the eligibility of applicants and ensuring that only genuine students benefit from the loan scheme. He emphasized that this lapse is not a flaw in the NELFUND system but rather a procedural oversight on the part of the institutions’ administrations.
The Managing Team of NELFUND called upon the SSA on Student Affairs to Governors to bridge the communication gap between their office and the heads of tertiary institutions. This would streamline the registration process and enable more students to access the educational loans they need.
In response, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu, SSA on Students Affairs to Ondo State Governor acknowledged the critical role of the NELFUND program in providing financial assistance to students. He committed to engaging with the heads of institutions to expedite the uploading process. Additionally, he assured that his office would launch awareness campaigns to educate students and institutions about the importance of timely submissions, aiming to prevent similar issues in the future.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing confidence in a swift resolution to the registration challenges. Hon. Olaolu commended the transparency and cooperation demonstrated by the NELFUND Managing Team and reassured students of the government’s commitment to their welfare and educational advancement. He reiterated that the Ondo State Government prioritizes the needs of students and is dedicated to facilitating their access to educational opportunities.
The meeting underscores the importance of effective communication and collaboration between government offices, educational institutions, and funding agencies in addressing student-related challenges. It also highlights the necessity of a robust administrative process to ensure all eligible students can access financial support without unnecessary obstacles.
The successful resolution of these issues will not only benefit students in Ondo State but also contribute to the broader goal of educational development across Nigeria.
