Ondo Governor’s Aide, Hon. Wellington Adebawo, Visits Scene of Fatal Accident on Owo-Ikare-Akoko Road, Decries Sale of Fake Tyres

Tragedy struck on Saturday, December 28, 2024, as two 18-seater buses collided on the Owo-Ikare-Akoko road in the northern part of Ondo State. The accident resulted in the death of passengers as the vehicles burst into flames following the head-on collision.

According to eyewitness reports, the accident occurred after the tyre of one of the buses burst, leading to a collision with the other vehicle. The scene of the accident was chaotic, with debris and charred remains of the buses scattered all over the road.

The Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo, visited the accident scene to assess the situation. He was accompanied by security agents, including men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Environmental officers, and the Nigeria Police.

During his visit to the Federal Medical Center, Owo, where the remains of the victims were being deposited in the morgue, Hon. Adebawo expressed his devastation at the incident. He decried the sale of fake tyres, which he said often burst on the road, leading to accidents and loss of lives.

One of the two buses involved in the accident was traveling from Lagos, while the other was traveling from Abuja. The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter regulations to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy.

As the investigation into the accident continues, Hon. Adebawo has called on the public to provide any information that may help to determine the cause of the accident. He has also appealed to drivers to exercise caution and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey, especially during this yuletide.
