Owo Crisis: BFA Extends Condolences to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Owo Residents

With a heavy heart, I extend my deepest condolences to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the people of Owo, and the families of those who lost their lives in the recent tragic and violent clash in Owo, Ondo State.

This unfortunate incident has brought immense pain to a proud and historic community. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected during this difficult time.

I appeal to the people of Owo and Ondo State to remain calm and refrain from acts of provocation or retaliation. Violence will never resolve our challenges.

Instead, we must stand united to promote peace and stability in our communities.

While I commend the Governor for the proactive step of instituting a dusk-to-dawn curfew to restore order, let me strongly urge the government and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation to uncover the root causes of this tragedy. Justice must be served, and those responsible must be held accountable.

The immediate attribution of this crisis to cult-related violence raises questions, especially given the political status of the first victim and recent reports surrounding the ruling party’s processes of choosing candidates for the forthcoming local government election in some places including Owo. A comprehensive inquiry is crucial to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Furthermore, I encourage the government to continue to strengthen state security by adopting a community-based approach that makes security everyone’s responsibility. A collaborative effort, where citizens act as guardians of one another, will foster trust and enhance collective safety.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may we all join hands to create a peaceful and secure Ondo State.
