Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa Pledges Development and Unity in Inaugural Speech

In a historic ceremony at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa was officially inaugurated as the seventh democratically elected Governor of Ondo State. The newly sworn-in governor delivered a rousing inaugural speech, outlining his administration’s vision for a new era of progress, unity, and development under the policy thrust O’DATIWA O’ DIRORUN (Our Ease).

Addressing a large crowd of dignitaries, political leaders, and residents, Governor Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to past leaders of the state, particularly his predecessor, the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON. He acknowledged Akeredolu’s immense contributions to the state’s growth and vowed to build on his legacy.

“This moment is a pivotal chapter in our state’s history. It is a reminder of our struggles, sacrifices, and resilience as a people. We honour our founding fathers and past governors whose selfless service laid the foundation for our progress,” he said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also expressed gratitude to the people of Ondo State for their overwhelming support in the last governorship election, where he and his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, secured victory across all 18 local government areas.

O’DATIWA O’ DIRORUN: A New Development Agenda

The governor unveiled a seven-point policy agenda designed to drive sustainable development in Ondo State. The core components of his administration’s development strategy include:

  1. Order, Security, and Rule of Law – Strengthening security agencies, enhancing intelligence gathering, and promoting community policing to ensure the safety of residents and investors.
  2. Urban and Rural Development through Agriculture and the Blue Economy – Boosting agricultural productivity, investing in rural infrastructure, and harnessing the state’s ocean resources for economic growth.
  3. Revolutionary Technological Advancement and Industrialisation – Supporting research, innovation, and entrepreneurship while revitalizing technical education to create a skilled workforce.
  4. Efficient Healthcare and Socioeconomic Welfare – Expanding access to quality healthcare and strengthening the state’s social investment programs.
  5. Adequate Power and Affordable Energy – Promoting renewable energy and completing the state’s Independent Power Plant Project.
  6. Sustainable Infrastructure and Tourism – Prioritizing infrastructural projects and transforming Ondo State into a leading tourism destination.
  7. Education, Human Capital Development, and Entrepreneurship – Enhancing the education system and promoting youth entrepreneurship to create employment opportunities.

The governor emphasized his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and ensuring the success of major projects such as Port Ondo and bitumen exploration. “We are in a hurry to justify this fresh mandate entrusted to us,” he assured the people.

Commitment to Good Governance

Governor Aiyedatiwa pledged to lead with transparency, accountability, and fairness, calling for unity among all stakeholders. He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the APC leadership, and security agencies for their roles in the peaceful electoral process.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering strong relationships with the legislative and judicial arms of government, stating, “Our collective success depends on collaboration, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the well-being of our people.”

In closing, the governor called on residents to support his government in achieving peace and stability, crucial for Ondo State’s growth. “Together, we can navigate this journey, overcome challenges, and build a prosperous future for generations to come.”
