Tinubu appoints governing council, principal officers for federal university in Ogoniland

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chinedu Mmom, a professor, as the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni, in Rivers state.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to Tinubu on information and strategy, the president appointed Don Mon Baridam as the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council.

The president also appointed members of the governing council of the new university.

Other members of the governing council include Emmanuel Onoja (north-central), Hamid Adekunle (south-west), Chima Oji (south-east) and Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (north-west).
Mpigi Monday Douglas (south-south) was appointed as the registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (north-central) will take the role of bursar, while Saghanen Ntogo (south-south) will be the librarian.

“Baridam is a professor of management with a specialisation in organisational behaviour. He previously taught at the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers state,” the statement reads.

“Mmom is a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Port Harcourt. He was also a former commissioner for education in Rivers state.”

In February, Tinubu signed the bill establishing the new university in Ogoni.

The president said the legislation was a step towards addressing environmental justice and expanding educational opportunities in the Niger Delta region.
