Corpse of missing Nigerian woman found in US

The remains discovered in Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, Illinois, have been identified as those of a missing Nigerian woman, Olasinmibo Abosede (Sinmi), who disappeared on July 30.

According to a statement by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and Naperville Police Department, her body was found on Thursday in a grassy area near 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive.

Police said her clothing matched what she was last seen wearing.

Sinmi, 42, had reportedly left home for a walk near Springbrook Golf Course and was captured on surveillance footage walking away from her neighbourhood around 9:20 a.m.

Authorities noted that extensive searches were conducted with the help of volunteers and canine units.

Although they ruled out foul play, an autopsy will be carried out by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
