Ex-Eagles Striker Anthony Ujah Retires at 34

Former Super Eagles forward, Anthony Ujah, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34.

Ujah made the announcement on Friday through an Instagram post, describing it as the toughest decision of his life.

The striker, who spent most of his career in Germany, last played for Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, where injuries limited him to just five appearances, scoring two goals before his contract ended in July.

“I want to thank every club I played for, every coach who believed in me, and every teammate who fought beside me on the pitch. Playing for my country was a childhood dream fulfilled,” he said.

Ujah enjoyed a memorable spell at FC Köln, where he became a fan favourite for his goals and his famous celebration with the club’s goat mascot. He scored 113 career goals over 15 years, with one of his career highlights being Köln’s 2014 German 2. Bundesliga title win.

For Nigeria, he earned seven caps for the Super Eagles without scoring.
