NDC Fixes Presidential Nomination Form at N40m, Unveils Primary Election Timetable
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the commencement of the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Moses Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the party said the sale of expression of interest forms will begin on May 13 and end on May 18, 2026.
According to the timetable, screening and interviews for aspirants will take place from May 19 to May 21, with the exercise serving as a prerequisite for the purchase of nomination forms.
The party advised aspirants to attend the screening exercise with all relevant credentials and supporting documents.
NDC said nomination forms will be sold immediately after the screening process, between May 21 and May 23, while completed forms must be submitted on or before May 25, 2026.
Appeals arising from the screening process are scheduled for May 25 to May 26, while primary elections for various elective offices will hold on May 27 and May 28.
The party disclosed that its presidential primary election is slated for May 29, 2026, in Abuja.
It added that aspirants seeking tickets for state houses of assembly will be screened in their respective states, while national assembly and presidential aspirants will undergo screening at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. Governorship primaries, according to the party, will be conducted at the local government level.
The NDC also stated that all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.
The party assured members and aspirants of a transparent and inclusive process, noting that it would adopt an open secret ballot system for its primaries to ensure fairness, credibility, and internal democracy.
On the cost of forms, the NDC said state house of assembly aspirants will pay N1 million for expression of interest forms and N1.5 million for nomination forms.
House of Representatives aspirants are expected to pay N2 million and N4 million for expression of interest and nomination forms respectively, while Senate aspirants will pay N3 million and N5 million.
Governorship aspirants will pay N10 million for expression of interest forms and N20 million for nomination forms.
For presidential aspirants, the party fixed the fees at N20 million for expression of interest forms and N40 million for nomination forms.
The NDC added that female aspirants and persons living with disabilities will enjoy discounted rates, paying 50 percent and 25 percent of the prescribed fees respectively across all categories.
