APC fixes presidential primary for May 23, denies postponement claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that its presidential primary election for the 2027 general elections will take place on May 23, 2026, dismissing reports suggesting the exercise had been postponed.

In a statement released on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described reports circulating on social media and other platforms about changes to the party’s timetable as false and misleading.

According to the party’s schedule, the House of Representatives primary election will hold on May 15, followed by the Senate primary election on May 18. The State House of Assembly primary is scheduled for May 20, while the governorship primary election will take place on May 21.

The APC said the presidential primary election remains fixed for May 23, 2026.

Meanwhile, the ruling party has begun screening incumbent governors ahead of the 2027 elections. Governors screened by the committee include Abba Yusuf, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Nasir Idris, Caleb Mutfwang, and Hyacinth Alia.

Others screened include Sheriff Oborevwori, Umar Bago, Dauda Lawal, Bassey Otu, and Ahmed Aliyu.

The clarification comes amid speculation over the APC’s internal preparations for the 2027 polls.
