Tragedy as final-year varsity student found dead in Kogi

The lifeless body of a final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has been discovered along the Lokoja Felele highway in Kogi State.

The deceased, identified as Sarah Ojodomo Idoko, was reportedly found on Saturday night around the Crusher axis of the busy road after being allegedly dumped there by unknown persons.

According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle was seen briefly stopping at the scene at about 8 p.m. before speeding away. Shortly after, passers-by discovered the body and raised the alarm, prompting the arrival of security operatives.

There were initial claims that the victim was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic after an identity card bearing her details was recovered at the scene. However, the Kogi State Police Command has since clarified that she was a student of the Federal University Lokoja.

Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.

He assured that updates on the investigation would be communicated to the public at the appropriate time, adding that the command is committed to ensuring justice for the deceased.

The incident has once again raised concerns about insecurity along the Felele corridor, a major route in Lokoja known for recurring security challenges.

Meanwhile, the Association of Nigeria Female Students (ANFS), Kogi State chapter, has condemned the killing, describing it as tragic and unacceptable.

In a statement signed by State Coordinator Comrade Celina Ojoniko James, the group called for a thorough probe and swift prosecution of the perpetrators, while urging authorities to improve safety measures around student communities and campuses.
