Democracy day: Dr. Fasoranti Harps on Renewed Commitment to Democratic Values
Today, as we commemorate Democracy Day, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the resilience of our nation and the enduring strength of democratic governance. This day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who stood firm in the defence of justice, freedom, and the right of the people to determine their collective destiny through the ballot box.
Democracy remains the most credible platform for nation-building because it gives every citizen a voice and provides the framework for accountability, participation, and peaceful coexistence. While our democratic journey has not been without challenges, we must take pride in the progress we have made as a nation. The stability of our democracy is a testament to the courage of our people, the resilience of our institutions, and our collective belief in the ideals of liberty and representative governance.
As Nigerians, we all have a role to play in sustaining and strengthening democracy. Beyond elections, democracy thrives when citizens remain law-abiding, actively participate in civic affairs, respect differing opinions, and hold leaders accountable through constructive engagement. We must reject divisive tendencies and embrace unity, patriotism, and mutual respect as the pillars upon which a stronger Nigeria can be built.
On this Democracy Day, I urge our people, especially the younger generation, to remain committed to the democratic values of justice, equity, tolerance, and service to the nation. Let us continue to work together to build a country where opportunities abound, where the rule of law prevails, and where every citizen can contribute meaningfully to national development.
As we celebrate this important milestone, may our democracy continue to flourish, and may Nigeria continue on the path of peace, progress, and prosperity.
Happy Democracy Day to all Nigerians.
