Tinubu Urges Youths to Build Nigeria, Says Nation’s Future Lies in Their Hands
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to remain in the country and contribute to its development, describing Nigeria as their home and future.
Speaking during his Democracy Day address on Thursday, June 12, 2026, Tinubu urged young Nigerians to channel their talents and innovations into nation-building.
“Nigeria is your home and your future. Build here, code here, work here, and vote here,” the president said.
Addressing the country’s growing population of technology-driven youths, Tinubu described the appeal as both a patriotic duty and a practical pathway to national progress.
He stressed that the development of any nation depends on citizens who remain committed to solving its challenges.
“Every great nation was built by those who stayed to solve problems, not by those who abandoned ship,” he added.
The president acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic journey has not been without challenges but noted that the country has continued to demonstrate resilience through peaceful transfers of power and the resolution of disputes through democratic institutions.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the country and driving economic prosperity.
“Every generation has a defining responsibility. The generation of our founding fathers secured independence, while the generation of June 12 secured democracy. Our generation must secure prosperity,” he said.
He called on Nigerians to reject division and pessimism, urging citizens to embrace unity, hope and confidence in the nation’s future.
“Let us move forward together, rejecting division, cynicism and despair; embracing unity, hope and confidence. Let us build a Nigeria united by a common purpose, strengthened by diversity, where justice is accessible, liberty is secure and opportunity is abundant,” Tinubu stated.
The president maintained that Nigeria’s diversity remains a source of strength for its democracy and urged citizens to work collectively toward a more prosperous political and economic future.
