Jigawa governor finds many secretariat offices empty during surprise inspection
Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed concern over poor attendance among civil servants after discovering that several offices at the state secretariat in Dutse were locked during an unannounced inspection.
The governor conducted the surprise visit to the secretariat on Monday as part of a statewide tour aimed at monitoring government activities and assessing the implementation of development projects.
During the inspection, which took place around 11am, several offices belonging to senior government officials were reportedly found empty, with only a few messengers and security personnel present.
Garba Muhammad, the governor’s Special Assistant, confirmed the inspection in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He said the visit was part of Namadi’s broader oversight activities, which included administrative monitoring, humanitarian engagements and inspection of infrastructure projects across the state.
According to him, the governor’s unannounced visit was aimed at monitoring staff attendance, punctuality and workplace productivity.
Muhammad said the exercise was consistent with the administration’s efforts to promote discipline, accountability and efficiency in the state public service.
The governor later travelled to Ringim Local Government Area, where he commiserated with families affected by the boat accident at Malamawar ‘Yan Dutse community.
Namadi also attended funeral prayers for victims whose bodies had been recovered and visited the Emir of Ringim to offer his condolences, while search operations continued for those still missing.
The governor subsequently visited Sankara to inspect ongoing township road network and Kanya Babba road projects.
In Kazaure, he assessed progress on several infrastructure projects, including hospitals, the Jigawa State Research Institute and the Jigawa State Polytechnic for Communication and Information Technology.
Muhammad said the tour reflected Namadi’s commitment to closely supervising government programmes, improving public service delivery and accelerating development projects across the state.
