Court Sacks Uzodinma as APC Senatorial Candidate, Declares Okorocha Winner
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Imo West.
The court directed INEC to replace Uzodinma’s name with that of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as the party’s candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the ruling on Thursday after holding that Uzodinma did not win the APC senatorial primary election conducted on May 18 and monitored by INEC.
Delivering judgment, Egwuatu said the evidence presented before the court established that Okorocha secured the majority of votes cast during the primary election and should be recognised as the winner.
The judge subsequently ordered the APC to forward Okorocha’s name to INEC as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The ruling comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, with INEC having scheduled the presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections for January 16, 2027.
