APC considers consensus option for Kwara governorship ahead of 2027
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State says it is weighing the option of adopting a consensus approach in selecting candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The state chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, disclosed this on Wednesday in Ilorin while receiving a former commissioner for finance and House of Representatives aspirant for Oke-Ero/Isin/Ifelodun federal constituency, Mrs Florence Oyeyemi.
Fagbemi said the move is aimed at reducing the number of aspirants across elective positions and preserving unity within the party.
He described the APC as a “single family” and noted that steps would be taken to prevent internal crises before, during and after the elections.
“I pray we are not going to have rancorous primaries, but the party will come up with guidelines in due course. We will streamline and choose among the contestants,” he said.
He added that the selection process would be fair to all aspirants, regardless of age, gender or religion.
Earlier, Oyeyemi said her decision to contest was driven by what she described as the “impressive performance” of the APC at both the state and national levels.
