JAMB releases UTME results, arrests two candidates and a parent over alleged AI fraud
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The examination, which began on Thursday, is being conducted across about 966 computer-based test (CBT) centres nationwide, with approximately 2.2 million candidates expected to sit for it.
In a statement issued on Friday night, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin said results for 632,788 candidates who took the exam on April 16 have been made available.
According to him, candidates can check their results by sending โUTMERESULTโ via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used during registration. He noted that while results can be viewed, printing is not yet available.
Benjamin warned candidates against attempting to manipulate or falsify their results, describing such actions as a serious criminal offence.
โThe Board treats such misconduct with the utmost gravity,โ he said.
He disclosed that two candidates and one parent are currently in custody for allegedly engaging in result falsification using artificial intelligence and other electronic methods.
โAny candidate found culpable will face the full consequences of the law,โ he added.
JAMB also stated that additional results will be released in batches as the examination continues.
