A yet-to-be-identified young man has been found dead in a bush path along the Lakers Hostel area in Osekita, within the vicinity of Ekiti State University (EKSU), in the late hours of Monday, April 13, 2026.

The shocking discovery has thrown the student community into fear and confusion, as residents of nearby hostels fled for safety amid the tense atmosphere that followed the incident.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased is believed to be a male fresh graduate of EKSU. Sources revealed that he had recently visited the institution to complete his clearance and collect his certificate. Documents and academic certificates reportedly found in a bag near the body helped in identifying his status.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the victim may have been chased by unknown assailants before the fatal attack. Ifedayo, a student residing in one of the hostels near the scene, recounted his experience:

“I was inside my room making a phone call when I suddenly heard someone shouting, ‘Don’t kill me, please don’t kill me.’”

Another student, who also lives in the area, narrated:

“I saw some guys chasing someone into the bush. Shortly after, I saw one of them run out with a bag. Moments later, we discovered a dead body in the bush.”

Based on these accounts, it is suspected that the victim was fleeing from his attackers when he ran into the bush path, where he was eventually caught and brutally killed.

The body was reportedly found with multiple cuts and covered in blood, indicating a violent assault.

The incident caused widespread panic, with many students running for their lives, fearing for their safety. As of the time of this report, the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder are ongoing. Students and residents have called on security agencies and school authorities to take urgent measures to ensure safety within and around the university community.
