Wike Dismisses PDP-APM Alliance, Says Makinde’s Presidential Ambition ‘Dead on Arrival’
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), describing the arrangement as a “419” scheme.
The PDP faction had disclosed on Wednesday that it entered into an alliance with APM in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Following the development, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the PDP-APM alliance would give the opposition platform the opportunity to field candidates across all elective positions.
However, speaking during an inspection of road projects in Abuja on Thursday, Wike rejected the claim, accusing Makinde of misleading Nigerians.
“That’s the 419 we are talking about,” Wike said, using a term widely associated with fraud in Nigeria.
He maintained that no formal alliance exists between the PDP and APM or any other political party, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is aware of the situation.
“INEC also knows that there is no such thing as a PDP-APM alliance,” the minister said.
Wike further argued that the screening of aspirants by the PDP faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed shows the party is operating independently rather than under any coalition arrangement.
According to him, the PDP has already produced a presidential candidate and would officially submit the candidate’s name to INEC, which he said would prove that no alliance exists with APM.
He also claimed that Makinde’s involvement with APM is aimed at advancing his presidential ambition, which he described as “dead on arrival.”
Wike added that Bala Mohammed made no mention of any PDP-APM alliance when he joined the political platform.
