Akure South APC Pledges Support For Fasoranti, Olatunji, Fynch, Abitogun

Akure Leaders of the All Progressives Congress APC in Akure South Local Government have pledged to work for the victory of the party’s consensus candidates ahead of the rescheduled direct primaries, following a meeting held on Thursday at the newly acquired APC Akure South Secretariat.

The meeting was convened to relay the outcome of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s engagement with party stakeholders on the resolutions reached regarding consensus candidates. About 20 leaders from each of the 11 wards in Akure South attended the session.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Fasua Gbenga- Donald thanked the leaders for their continued support for Governor Aiyedatiwa. He said the purpose of the meeting was to formally present the party’s candidates to Akure South leaders and mobilize them to ensure victory in the primaries, despite other aspirants calling for a direct primary.

Fasua announced the consensus candidates as:
Senate: Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti
House of Representatives: Hon. Wumi Olatunji Ohwovoriole
House of Assembly, Constituency 1: Hon. Deola Fynch
House of Assembly, Constituency 2: Hon. Stephen Abitogun

He acknowledged that all aspirants from the Senate to the House of Assembly were qualified, but stressed that not everyone could occupy the seats at the same time. “Whoever emerges as the party’s candidate should consider themselves lucky to serve their people,” he said.

Fasua said Governor Aiyedatiwa had appealed to Akure South leaders to accept the party’s decision and ensure the candidates’ success at both the primaries and the general election. He also urged them to ensure peaceful conduct before, during, and after the exercise, noting that Akure, as the state capital, holds a strategic stake in Ondo State.

“If Akure gets it right, all other local governments in the state will get it right, because everything flows from Akure to other local governments,” Fasua said.

Buttressing his remarks, the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Hon. Sunday Olajide, said the governor’s directive was for Akure South leaders to accept the candidates and ensure a free, fair, and credible primary. He said those selected to fly the party’s flag were painstakingly chosen and had paid their dues to the party and the state.

The Akure South APC Chairman, Rev. Gbenga Jemiluyi Jebe, reiterated the governor’s position and appealed to party leaders across the 11 wards to cooperate in ensuring victory for the candidates.

“There are many opportunities for other aspirants, and politics should not be seen as a do-or-die affair. If it’s not your turn today, tomorrow may be your turn. The party leadership has spoken, and it is incumbent on followers to respect and honour their resolution,” Jebe said. He ended with the rallying cry: “Akure united, united we stand!”

Hon. Wumi Olatunji Ohwovoriole and Hon. Deola Fynch, who were present at the meeting, thanked and appreciated Akure South leaders for their trust in them. Both pledged to deliver robust representation if given the opportunity and said they would make Akure proud.

Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti was absent but sent his Director General, Hon. Tony Alla, to apologize on his behalf. Alla explained that Fasoranti was in Ondo town for Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s defection from the PDP to the APC.

Several leaders who spoke at the meeting, including Prof. Aderounmu, Pa Ojuola, Hon. Tony Alla, and Hon. Sunday Adejuyigbe, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s efforts to move the state forward and praised the character and personality of the selected candidates.

They said Akure South had respect for the governor and would ensure his directive was followed to the letter, urging ward leaders to work as directed by the party to secure victory at the primaries.

The primaries, initially scheduled for May 15, have now been postponed to Saturday, May 16, 2026.
