Adeboye to Security Chiefs: End Terrorism in 90 Days or Resign
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorists within 90 days or step down from office.
Speaking in a video shared on the church’s X account on Tuesday, Adeboye called on the federal government to act decisively in tackling the country’s worsening security challenges.
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign,” he said.
The cleric noted that while religious leaders can offer guidance, the ultimate responsibility for security decisions rests with the Commander-in-Chief.
Adeboye recalled giving similar advice to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who subsequently directed security chiefs to combat Boko Haram and other criminal elements within a specified period. According to him, the directive was not effectively enforced after the deadline elapsed.
“He ran with that advice, but he didn’t follow it through. The three months went, and the work was not done,” Adeboye said.
He further urged the current administration of Bola Tinubu to ensure that security operations target not only terrorists but also their sponsors, regardless of their influence or status.
“When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear to them that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists, they should eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he added.
Adeboye’s remarks come amid growing concerns over insecurity across Nigeria, following recent kidnappings, attacks on communities, and the abduction of students and teachers in several parts of the country.
