Military Air Strike Eliminates Terrorist Commanders, Over 50 Insurgents in Lake Chad
Several high-ranking terrorist commanders and more than 50 insurgents have been killed following a military air strike operation in the Lake Chad region.
The operation, conducted under Operation Hadin Kai on May 31, targeted terrorist hideouts and logistics bases in the Kirta and Arina Ciki areas after intelligence reports revealed significant insurgent activities.
According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, those killed included Khalifa Umar, a key member of the terrorists’ Shura Council from Sigir, alongside two field commanders identified as Abdallah and Abduljalil.
The air strikes also destroyed several logistics facilities, supply depots, and support structures used by the insurgents, significantly weakening their operational capacity across the Lake Chad Basin.
Military sources said the sustained aerial offensive has forced many fighters to abandon their traditional island strongholds and relocate to more exposed positions on the mainland.
While describing the security situation in the theatre as generally calm but fluid, security officials expressed confidence in the readiness and effectiveness of troops engaged in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
The latest operation is expected to strengthen recent gains by Nigerian and allied forces in efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
