Outrage as Port Harcourt Realtor Allegedly Assaults Women at Nightclub

Two women have accused a popular real estate businessman in Port Harcourt, Maduba Okechi Christian, of violently assaulting them during a birthday celebration at a nightclub in the city.

The alleged incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Blacbox nightclub. According to the victims, what started as a night of celebration ended in trauma after they were reportedly attacked, stripped naked, and one of them had a bottle smashed on her head, leaving her bleeding.

The women, who have since shared videos detailing their ordeal, identified the realtor as the CEO of Ceemore Group of Companies. They also alleged that a Mobile Police officer attached to him participated in the assault.

Allegations of Rejected Advances

The women claim the attack followed their refusal to entertain romantic advances from the suspect. One of the victims, Thonia Okoye, said she had paid N200,000 to reserve a table at the club to celebrate her birthday with friends.

In a video posted online, Okoye said Maduba approached their table and requested to join them, which they declined. Tension escalated when one of the ladies was filming herself dancing. Maduba allegedly objected and confronted them aggressively.

โ€œHe hit my friendโ€™s phone and began threatening us. Then he and his men started breaking bottles and attacking us,โ€ Okoye alleged. โ€œThey injured my friendโ€™s head, broke anotherโ€™s tooth, pushed me down the stairs, stripped me, and beat me mercilessly. He came with police and bodyguards โ€” this isnโ€™t the first time he has done this at that club.โ€
โ€˜He Smashed a Bottle on My Headโ€™

Another victim, Juliet Obasi, said she had travelled from Owerri to Port Harcourt to attend the birthday celebration. She said the realtor smashed a bottle on her head and attempted to stab her during the confrontation.

โ€œI was bleeding so much I had to be rushed to the hospital. The club’s management did nothing. Their security just stood by while we were attacked,โ€ she said. โ€œAll this because we didnโ€™t have any men with us โ€” he thought we were easy targets.โ€

Obasi added that the group would demand CCTV footage from the nightclub as part of efforts to pursue justice.

Alleged Club Complicity

Both women criticized the club’s staff for failing to intervene during the attack. They said despite repeated requests for help, the management appeared indifferent.

โ€œThe waitress seemed more interested in greeting him than helping us,โ€ Obasi said. โ€œWhen the bottle hit my head, I didnโ€™t realize I was bleeding until people started shouting.โ€

She further alleged that another woman in their group had her tooth broken in the chaos, while Okoye was dragged, stripped, and physically assaulted.

Public Reactions

The incident has triggered public outrage online, with many calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect.

Social media users condemned the violence and called on law enforcement to ensure justice is served.

โ€œThis is sad and unacceptable,โ€ one user said. โ€œNot every girl in a club is a sex worker. Many are independent and deserve respect.โ€

Another wrote, โ€œThe alleged attacker should be brought to justice. He cannot continue to act with impunity.โ€

Police and Club Response

While the Rivers State Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, did not respond to calls or messages as of press time, the police command confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that both the suspect and the club manager had been invited for questioning.

“The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area has taken up the matter, and both parties have been summoned for investigation,” the post read.

In a video shared online, the owner of Blacbox nightclub, identified as Greatcool Ejekwu, also known as โ€œDatfairboy,โ€ described the incident as โ€œpathetic and unacceptable.โ€ He stated that a petition had been submitted to relevant authorities.

Efforts to reach Maduba for comments were unsuccessful, as messages to his known contacts and verified social media accounts were not returned.
