Adebayo: Tinubu’s Brazil Trip a Waste of Resources
Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Brazil, describing it as a waste of scarce resources.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Adebayo argued that Tinubu’s mission to learn from Brazil’s economic model was unnecessary since the policies he sought were already contained in the SDP manifesto.
He noted that Brazil’s success under former President Lula da Silva was built on poverty reduction programmes such as Bolsa Familia, which reduced poverty by 27 percent in four years. According to him, this contrasts sharply with Tinubu’s “subsidy removal” policy, which he said has worsened poverty in Nigeria.
Adebayo also compared Brazil’s state oil company, Petrobras, with Nigeria’s NNPC, describing them as “polar opposites” in terms of management.
“I am happy the President is there because he will see how wrongheaded his policies are. But I am not happy that he spent so much money to get what he could have read in the SDP manifesto. He once belonged to the party and should know better,” he said.
