Aiyedatiwa Presents Staff of Office to Alale of Akungba, Reaffirms Neutrality in Chieftaincy Matters
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday presented the Staff of Office to Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu as the Alale of Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government.
The governor said the recognition of Oba Adu marked the end of a prolonged legal battle and the restoration of peace in the community. He explained that although it was the turn of the Olugbade Ruling House to produce the next monarch after the passing of Oba Sunday Adeyeye Ajimo in March 2025, the state acted in line with court rulings that upheld Adu’s claim.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the government remained neutral in all chieftaincy matters, noting that the decision was taken in the interest of peace and justice. He urged the Olugbade Ruling House to be patient and assured that the move was not a preference for any ruling house.
Charging the new monarch, he said: *“Kabiyesi, you are now a father to all. Your reign must foster unity, peace, and development, not division.”*
The governor also highlighted ongoing projects in the area, including the dualization of the Akungba–Ikare road, flood control measures, and security improvements through the Amotekun Corps.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, and Chairman of Akoko South West, Hon. Ayo Ajana, commended the governor’s leadership in resolving the age-long tussle.
In his remarks, Oba Adu expressed gratitude to God and the government for upholding the Supreme Court judgment in his favour, describing his installation as the fulfillment of a journey that began in 1951. He pledged to prioritize peace and development during his reign.
