LAUTECH Assures Students of Safety After Ogbomoso School Attack

The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has reassured students and staff of their safety following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers by suspected gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the university registrar, Olayinka Balogun, said the institution was aware of the fear and anxiety generated by the attacks on schools in Oriire LGA, which had also sparked security concerns among members of the university community.

Balogun dismissed rumours of a planned attack on the university campus, stressing that the institution remains secure and that additional security measures have been put in place.

According to the statement, academic activities are ongoing without interruption, while security agencies continue to monitor developments closely.

The management urged students and staff to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and continue with their normal academic and social activities.

It added that the university remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of members of the institution and would provide updates if necessary.

The reassurance comes in the wake of Friday’s attack on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all located in Oriire LGA.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that two people were killed during the incident, while reports indicated that at least 45 schoolchildren, alongside a principal and teachers, were abducted.

On Sunday, videos of the abducted principal and a teacher surfaced online, showing them pleading with the federal and Oyo State governments to secure their release.

A viral video also allegedly showed the killing of one of the victims, triggering widespread outrage.

Reacting to the development, President Bola Tinubu condemned the reported killing, describing it as barbaric, and assured Nigerians that security operatives were working tirelessly to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.

He also pledged collaboration between the federal and Oyo State governments to ensure the safe return of those abducted.
