Abayomi Akinruntan Resigns as Deputy Speaker of Ondo Assembly
The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Abayomi B. Akinruntan, has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons aligned with the state’s power-sharing arrangements.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, Akinruntan expressed gratitude to his colleagues in the House for the trust and support extended to him during his tenure. His resignation takes immediate effect.
“After due consultation and careful consideration, I have decided to step down due to personal reasons, which align with the conventional arrangement in power sharing of elective positions in the State,” he stated.
Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency I, also thanked the leadership under which he served, paying tribute to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the current Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for fostering a platform of effective governance and collaboration.
Reflecting on his decade-long legislative experience, the former Deputy Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to public service.
“As I exit this office, I remain committed to serving the people of my constituency and Ondo State at large. With over 10 years of experience in the House, I am confident that my expertise will continue to benefit our state,” he said, pledging to serve out his term through 2027.
Akinruntan was elected into the House in 2019 and served as Deputy Speaker from June 2019 until his resignation in June 2025.
