Trump Claims US Military Strikes Ended Killings of Christians in Nigeria
United States President Donald Trump has claimed that recent US military strikes in Nigeria helped end the killing of Christians in the country.
Trump made the remarks on Friday during an event in Washington, where he said the military operation had significantly reduced attacks on Christian communities.
“As you know, we recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations,” Trump said, alleging that thousands of Christians, including women, children and the elderly, had been killed before the intervention.
He further claimed that the operation had discouraged further terrorist attacks, warning that any renewed violence would be met with an even stronger military response.
“They know that if they go further, the attack will be far greater,” he said, adding that the US military had eliminated the first, second and third-ranking leaders of the targeted terrorist group.
Trump compared the operation in Nigeria to ongoing US actions against Iran, saying both were aimed at preventing major security threats.
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting Christians around the world, stating that the United States would continue to target terrorist groups wherever they operate.
“We know where they are. We hunt them down, and we take them out,” he said, describing the attacks carried out by terrorists on villages as “crazy.”
The US president also warned against what he described as threats to religious freedom, claiming some political forces sought to undermine religion.
The comments follow a series of joint military operations between Nigeria and the United States. In December 2025, the US launched airstrikes targeting ISIS fighters in Sokoto State.
In May, Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters announced that more than 20 ISIS/ISWAP fighters were killed during joint US-Nigeria airstrikes in Metele, Borno State.
In June, the Nigerian military, working with the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), said 21 ISWAP fighters were killed in an airstrike in Arege, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
