Adeboye defends Tinubu over insecurity, says president has fulfilled his responsibility

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over the country’s worsening insecurity, saying the president has discharged his responsibility by directing the military to tackle the challenge.

Adeboye made the remarks during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23.

He argued that as commander-in-chief, Tinubu should not be expected to personally engage in military operations once he has issued the necessary directives to security agencies.

“I don’t support those accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to wear khaki and go to the battlefield,” Adeboye said.

Drawing a comparison with United States President Donald Trump, the cleric said leaders are expected to issue commands while security personnel carry out operations.

He, however, acknowledged that insecurity has worsened and lamented that terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes have spread from northern Nigeria into the southern part of the country.

According to him, the security situation has deteriorated to the point where people now question the presence of God because of the scale of violence.

Adeboye revealed that he had discussed the issue with President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the RCCG.

He said he advised the president to issue a 90-day ultimatum to military commanders to eliminate terrorism or resign from their positions.

The cleric also called for decisive action against those financing terrorist activities, describing them as influential individuals, including businessmen and politicians.

“If you do not deal with those supplying arms and ammunition to these people, the problem will continue,” he said.

Adeboye urged the United States and other countries to support Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism and restoring security across the country.
